Welcome . My name is Andras Wolf, I am Chef de Cuisine at New York Cafe and the Salon Restaurant. In the footsteps of my father I fell in love with gastronomy as a child. Since I was a youngster I have been committed to the reinvention of Hungarian cuisine and the redefinition of long forgotten traditional Hungarian dishes. I am a firm believer of using local authentic quality ingredients only. I considered the 2009 invitation to head the kitchen at New York Cafe and the Salon Restaurant a serious challenge. Delivering excellence for a five star hotel, the prettiest cafe in the world and one of the most elegant restaurants in the city is not a regular job. My priority is to conserve and reshape traditional Hungarian dishes. As a result of my experimenting during the years a new concept was born: Essential Hungarian Gastronomy. According to this method preserving the most important characteristic of the dishes – their taste – but altering their texture, shape, preparation and serving modern, even more enjoyable creations are born.
The history of goose liver goes back a long way, and foie gras has enjoyed continuing popularity for thousands of years. It is a luxury dish - not only because of its special taste and consistency, but also because of its highly beneficial components. In Hungary it is considered a Hungarikum, a real Hungarian speciality, but of course it is well-liked all over the world.
The bar upstairs with its dim light is one of the cosiest places in the New York Palace. It offers a view of the Salon Restaurant, a part of the New York Café, and the lobby of the hotel: look around while you are sipping your coffee, have a nice lunch or dinner, and enjoy the piano music and the attention you get from us. The Nyugat Bar had seen some hard times before it became this peaceful place, and its misfortunes started in the previous century.
